Some great news – two of my guided tours in the Broads National Park – Rails, Trails and Sails and Fairhaven Garden & South Walsham Marshes have been selected for the National Park Experiences – a collection of 70 experiences in English National Parks.
Rails, Trails and Sails is a half day tour which starts and finishes at Norwich Railway Station and heads by train to Reedham. I cover the history of the railway line and talk about the nature reserves in the Yare valley during the train journey.
We then explore Reedham on foot and look at the story of the Norfolk wherry, along with the railways in the area and enjoy the views across the marshes, before visiting Reedham Church, which is believed to be on the site of a Roman fort and lighthouse. We also visit Humpty Dumpty Brewery for some beer sampling (subject to availability).
Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden & South Walsham Marshes is a 4.5-mile circular walk, which begins in this beautiful natural garden in the heart of the Broads. We then walk along the Fleet Dyke before reaching the River Bure and views of the ancient remains of St Benet’s Abbey, then head back through South Walsham Marshes, with some wildife spotting (hopefully), to Fairhaven Garden for coffee/tea and cake.
