The Great Anniversaries Tour of Norwich – English Tourism Week 24

It’s a year of anniversaries in Norwich. Paul Dickson is leading a special free tour, at 2pm on Friday 22 March, looking at the stories behind the anniversaries, to mark English Tourism Week 24. The tour starts outside the Grosvenor Fish Bar on Lower Gate Lane. Book tickets at Eventbrite.

On this two-hour guided tour , you will learn the history behind one of Norwich’s most popular and oldest fish and chip shops in its 100th year (with a free bag of chips to accompany you), take in the beautiful work of revered local architect, George Skipper, at the Royal Arcade in its 125th year and see Dragon Hall, home to the National Centre for Writing, to mark Heritage Open Day’s 30th anniversary.

During the tour you will also see St Julian’s Church, where Julian of Norwich became the first women to write a book in English, as well as Tombland and The Maid Head Hotel, which is claimed to be the oldest hotel in the country.

At the end of the tour, enjoy complimentary tea/coffee and cake at The Maids Head, with a collection in aid of Age UK Norwich, the hotel’s charity of the year.
